FAQ

General

Who is the Login button for?

The MapGeo Login is for AppGeo and Municipal Staff, if applicable. Some municipalities have certain data or functionality behind a secure login accessible only to staff. Also the login provides those with an appropriate user role with access to the dashboard.

Is there a way to allow users to turn off Google Places?

Yes, AppGeo can toggle this feature in the dashboard.

Can I show more CAMA data through the new MapGeo?

Yes, if the CAMA data export provided to AppGeo contains the appropriate data, then additional data fields can be configured to display in the property information panel, and in the downloads (spreadsheet, labels, MapGeo PRC).

What browser should I use?

Google Chrome works best for the site in general, however it should be compatible with any modern browser (latest 2 versions of Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox and Safari)

Where do the street names come from?

Google Basemap and Satellite Basemap street names are sourced by the Google Maps API.

Is there an option to remove Street View from the interface?

Not at this time.

Layers & Basemap

Is there an aerial photo history for Google? Will a photo date be provided for historic images?

Google does not provide historic aerial photos at this time.

Is there a way, through CartoDB, to create my own basemap for consumption through the new MapGeo?

If the MapGeo customer chooses to purchase and manage their own CartoDB account then they do have full control over their map visualizations which are consumed by MapGeo. So, a Basemap theme created for the mash-up with the Google Basemaps is customizable by the client in this scenario.

Is there a way to ‘re-style’ the Google basemap - e.g. dark colors for a ‘night’ display?

While it is technically possible to create custom styles for the Google Basemap, this is not something we currently support in MapGeo.

On the Sales Cluster layer, will there be a way to enter a sale date range?

The sales cluster layer as demo’d on the MaldenMA MapGeo site is a sample of what’s possible with the integration of CartoDB’s visualizations in MapGeo. If you are looking for a custom map such as this one, please discuss the details of your data and needs with your AppGeo Project Manager. But, yes, in this sales cluster layer example, the data could be filtered by a date range.

Is there a Google basemap legend?

The basemap legend will be deployed soon.

Abutters

How do I remove a parcel from an abutters query?

To remove a parcel from an abutters query, either click the “x” button in the abutters list next to the property you wish to remove. Or simply click on the highlighted abutter parcel on the map and it will remove it from both the map and the list.

Can I print a map showing abutters?

This feature is under development currently and will be available soon.

How often is the data updated in reference to the abutters list?

The Abutter list data is sourced from the Assessing database records provided by the municipality. So the currency of this data is dependant on the plan that the municipality has in place for this CAMA data refreshing. AppGeo provides several options. To find out more about the options available to you, please contact your AppGeo Project Manager.

Is there a way to center abutters around a street instead of a parcel?

This feature is included in our enhancements list.

Share & Print

Can I choose a scale at which to share/print my map?

With the Share function, the zoom level at which you are viewing the map will be supplied in the shareable URL. With the print function, the printable map maintains the same zoom level and scale as the interactive map at the time of generating the printable map. Therefore if you are using a large monitor and browser window, you may need to pan your map to center the portion of the map you wish to be printed so that it is included in the printable map.

Is there a required browser in order to use the share function?

Google Chrome works best for the site in general, however it should be compatible with any modern browser (latest 2 versions of Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox and Safari). The Share function simply supplies you with an easy way to copy the link of the current state of MapGeo to your clipboard. This allows you to paste the link into other applications, email, or text.

Can I print a larger scale map on a different paper size?

Not at this time.
